Creating an Easy Flowing Home Page

Create an easy flowing home page that shares exactly who you are!

Your home page is the front door to your online business presence. It is the place that your visitors will make the decision to “come inside” and find out more, or move onto the next place. So it is only natural that you would want to create an easy flowing home page that easy to ready and inviting.

As I shared yesterday in Creating Clear Concise Content the single focus for your home page should clearly state …

Who you are. What you do. How you do it.

Sounds simple, yet you would be surprised in how many people get caught up in the technical details of building a website, that they fail to make this clear. So let’s dive in a little deeper as to what this would look like…

The first thing visitors should see …

You want the very first thing visitors to see is what you do and how it can make their life better. Make a point of being specific and to the point.

For example, I create gorgeous websites, so when you look at my home page that is the very first thing you will see. While it is also true that I support small businesses and organizations, stating this first would only offer confusion as there are a lot of ways to support small business and organizations from financial support, project management and more.

Call to Action: Provide a link or button that directs visitors to a Sales Page

Give them steps to get started ~

This is a great place to share a teaser that allows them to see if you are a good fit for them. Think newsletter, freebie, or both! Whatever you offer, make sure that it offers an incredible value that has then asking and looking for more.

Call to Action: Offer a newsletter of weekly tips or a freebie they will love

Show them why you are the expert ~

This is a great place to share a tidbit of your “why” you are doing what you are doing. Share a struggle or pain point, along with a statement that illustrates that moment of freedom you experienced when you discovered the secret behind what you do.

If you are a faithful blogger, offering direct access to your most recent blogs is another way to share your expertise.

Call to Action: A link to your “About Me” page. You could also share a 3 post series of your most recent or popular blog posts.

Share what more you have to offer after the freebie ~

Share a brief description of the services and/or products you offer. Keep the descriptions, clear, concise and to the point encouraging them to want more. If you have a large number of products, this is a place to share with them categories of what is available.

Call to Action: Button or Link to the service or product pages. This could be one button/link per service or product, or a link to the full services or products page.

Make sure you are clear with your call to action. You want your visitors to  know what to expect when they arrive on the new page.

Make sure you tell them how to get in touch with you!

If they have scrolled to the bottom of your home page, they are interested to some degree. Give them the opportunity to reach out to you and learn more.

Call to Action: A contact form, call button, or email me button. You could also create a button or link that directs them to

A little bit about Teresa...

Hello! I am so glad you are here, and I am excited for this chance to tell you a little bit more about me! I am an accidental web designer who found this dream job totally by accident! (Isn't it great when that happens!) And now I have the pleasure of spending most of my days building gorgeous websites through Squarespace and WordPress. I also have a couple of amazing grown up kids, 4 dogs, 3 cats and 9 chickens! And when I am not geeking out of some new design, you can find me hanging out in southeast South Dakota.
