Protecting Your Business, Brand & Website

Legal documents you need to protect your business, brand & website.

When it comes to your website design, you my friend are creating more than a website. Whether you are working with a designer or taking the DIY approach, you website is a symbol of the life you are creating for yourself. You have put in a lot hours, probably a few tears, and a ton of effort. So why wouldn’t you take the steps needed for protecting your business, brand and website in the legal arena.

I am of course talking about the legal documents your website needs, and today wanted to share with you the legal documents you want to always include on your website.

The Website Disclaimer

Your website disclaimer is the most basic level of website protection. It helps prevent confusion as to what it is that you do, and disclaims your liability. It also advises your website visitors to use their best judgement when using your website, and that if they don’t agree with your terms they should not use your website at all.

The Privacy Policy

With new laws going into affect across the globe this page is more important now than ever before. A good privacy policy clearly outlines the information you gather and why you need it. It also explains how you will use the information and who, if anyone, you will share it with.

Terms of Use

This page more clearly outlines the terms and conditions governing your website, including the visitors acceptance of terms and privacy policy as well as visitor obligations. It clearly defines what your business does and the ownership of your site content. Additional items covered include:

  • Referral Links & Agreements
  • Intellectual Property Licenses
  • Severability
  • Warranties
  • Limitation of Liability
  • Governing Law

How to get these documents

There are many resources online that offer these templates, such as

One thing they all have in common, is the disclaimer that you should see a legal representative in your area, to ensure the documents are truly protecting you and your business.  So you may want to just start there right away when it comes time to protecting your business.

A little bit about Teresa...

Hello! I am so glad you are here, and I am excited for this chance to tell you a little bit more about me! I am an accidental web designer who found this dream job totally by accident! (Isn't it great when that happens!) And now I have the pleasure of spending most of my days building gorgeous websites through Squarespace and WordPress. I also have a couple of amazing grown up kids, 4 dogs, 3 cats and 9 chickens! And when I am not geeking out of some new design, you can find me hanging out in southeast South Dakota.

Legal Stuff...

Some of the links on this page maybe affiliate links and if you go through them to make a purchase I will earn a commission. Keep in mind that I link these companies and their products because of their quality and not because of the commission I receive from your purchases. The decision is yours, and whether or not you decide to buy something is completely up to you.
